Author Jim Pettengill, one of the contributing authors of Mt. Sneffels Press book “Ouray County Historical Society Journal Volume 4,” won a prestigious award from the Wild West History Association. At WWHA’s Roundup (annual convention), Jim received the “Outstanding Article on Western History (Scholarly and/or Historical Publication),” for his article “The Marlow Brothers’ Texas Ordeal and Life in Ouray County.”

This award, for one of the articles in a Mt. Sneffels Press book, is a feather in Jim’s cap. It’s a national award from a respected organization whose members and evaluation committees include most of the recognized experts in the field. It shows that quality work can come from small, local historical societies and from local presses.

The WWHA is an international organization devoted to the history of the American West and what made it wild. They publish a Journal six times a year with well-documented articles. Their Roundup this year was held in Cody, Wyoming, in July. Their website is www.wildwesthistory.org.
